Heart Magazine – Summer 2016 – Your Story is Valuable

Heart Magazine – Summer 2016 – Your Story is Valuable

Some people tell me, ‘Oh, you wouldn’t want me in Heart magazine. There’s nothing interesting about me.’ We get so used to reading sensationalist stories that we belittle our own valuable life experiences. I don’t agree that “Everyone has a book in them,” but I do believe everyone has a story to tell. Thank you Dave, p1; Liz, p5; and Helen, p8 for sharing your very personal and inspiring stories with us.

Some of our many teams

Heart highlights some of our many teams. Read about football, netball and even footgolf on p4 as Danny and Anna talk about SportsReach and how you or someone you know might like to join in the fitness fun. Pages 6–7 are about a very different kind of team – a new song-writing group called ‘Fulwood Free Music.’ The members work hard to produce some powerful modern songs that we use in church. Page 10 focuses on the Inclusion Team, led by James and Sarah. Please do read this short introduction to their work as they’d value your feedback, ideas and opinions.

We are here for you

We never put commercial advertisements into Heart. All our ads refer to activities run by Fulwood Free Methodist Church (FFMC) for the benefit of the whole community, from babies to teens to senior citizens. Whoever you are, we are here for you. Find fun at the Fun Day p12, friendship at the 18-30s group, and faith at The Venue p10.

Services

And finally – we recently began TWO identical morning services to make space for newcomers. Children can sit with you or go to ‘Energize’ (ages 2 – 11). Teens have their own service. For deaf users of BSL/SSE, the services are signed by friendly volunteers. If you wish to be prayed for or visited by one of our pastoral team, please don’t hesitate to ask. For information phone or email the church office, or call into reception on weekdays. Enjoy your summer!

Talks Series – Spring/Summer 2016 | Transformed by the Holy Spirit

Talks Series – Spring/Summer 2016 | Transformed by the Holy Spirit

TRANSFORMED BY THE HOLY SPIRIT

During the spring of 2016 in both our morning and evening gatherings we will be looking at the Holy Spirit.

In the morning we will be considering who the Holy Spirit is and why He matters. We speak of God as our Father and Jesus as our Saviour, but to many Christians the Holy Spirit – the third person of the Trinity – is still a bit of a mystery! He always will be! However Jesus promised that the Holy Spirit would indwell and transform us, and the New Testament shows the Spirit in action in amazing ways.    In this six-message series we take a journey through the Bible to find out who He is, what He does and, most importantly, how he can revolutionise our daily lives.

In our evening gatherings we will be looking at the New Testament passages about the gifts God gives His church. Hospitality, healing, tongues and teachers – all gifts God gives and more! We pray you will be challenged to discover what God has given your and set free to serve Him in surprising, unexpected ways.

Children’s and Youth Worker Vacancy

Children’s and Youth Worker Vacancy

We have an exciting vacancy for a Children’s and Youth Worker.

At Fulwood Free Methodist Church our vision is to ‘be disciples and make disciples’ as we reach out to the local community, which includes children and youth. We are a growing church situated in a suburban area of Preston. We seek to cater for people of all ages and there is a thriving youth and children’s work already in place.

Due to the continuing growth in numbers of families and young people we believe that the next step is to appoint someone to join the team as a children’s and youth worker. We are looking for someone with the ability to build upon the youth and children’s ministries already in place and to grow this in line with the vision of the church. We need someone who can work within the existing staff team and who can also lead and develop teams of volunteers.

If you are interested in applying please see the linked job description and follow the enclosed instructions to apply.

Closing date for applications 31/03/2016.

Where do you go to be social – Facebook, Twitter and Instagram?

Where do you go to be social?

Perhaps you are permanently on Facebook along with over a billion other people. Or are you more of a Twitter fan preferring it’s simplicity and absence of Candy Crush Saga. But maybe, you spend your time on Instagram sharing your pictures with everyone.  Whichever it is, we are there also adding pictures, thoughts, highlighting upcoming events and telling you what’s on the menu for this week’s Lunch-break Wednesday.

During the current series of Transformed Life we are making an extra special effort to post an update each day with some thought from that day’s reading. So why not Like on Facebook; Follow on Twitter or Follow on Instagram then favorite, like, comment, reply – we’d love to hear from you.

Accessing the Podcasts

Accessing the Podcasts

Each week there are a few hundred downloads of podcasts from fulwoodfmc.net.

The podcasts go all the way back to 2008 – the year of the global Financial Crisis.

There are a number of ways of accessing the podcasts which sometimes makes it a bit tricky to explain to people how to do it, but here are some tips.

Go to the web page

The simplest way to listen to one podcast is to go to the web page – http://fulwoodfmc.net/podcasts/ – look down the list of available podcasts and listen by clicking on the play button.

If you click on the categories area you can select podcasts from different series and different speakers. There’s even a tag cloud for the main Bible chapters used in each talk.

But you don’t want to do that…

Listening on the web page may be simple and accessible, but there are better ways of listening. The challenge with the web site is that you have to remember to go to it and you have to have good internet access. The other thing is that our podcast upload cherubs don’t always do the podcasts on the same day so you may have to go back a few times to see whether they’ve been made available.

A better way of listening is using an App and there are a number available depending on what equipment you have:

For the iProduct fans – and those using iTunes

If you have an iPhone, iPad or modern iPod, or if you use iTunes in any way you can get the podcasts delivered to your device every time they get posted.

All you have to do is go to the podcast app on your iProduct or iTunes on our Mac or PC and subscribe.

The podcast app comes pre-installed on your iProduct and it has an icon that looks like this:

podcasts

If you start the app, click on search and type in fulwood free methodist church it’ll show you a screen that currently looks like this:

20160211_182821000_iOS

If you click on the FFMC picture below where it says podcast it’ll then how you a screen that currently looks like this (with this week’s podcasts):

20160211_182829000_iOS

Clicking on subscribe to get the podcasts downloaded every week when they are published, that way you won’t need to keep checking the web site to see whether the podcast cherubs have done there task of publishing this weeks talks.

For iTunes, the process is similar – search fulwood free methodist in the iTunes store and you’ll get this result:

itunes-search

Click on the FFMC icon at the bottom and you’ll then get a page that looks like this:

itunes-result

From here you can click subscribe and again you’ll have all of your podcasts delivered to you when they are uploaded.

For the Android fans

It’s a bit more difficult to give instructions for Android devices because different manufacturers put different things on their phones and tablets.

If you already use a podcast app then you already know how to add a podcast subscription. I’m going to describe what to do using a completely new app.

The first thing to do is to go to the Google Play Store, whilst there search for podcasts – this will show you a very long list of apps that provide podcast capabilities. A number of these will cost you a few pounds, but the free ons are good enough for most people. An example of a free one is Podcast Republic another on is Player:FM. Click to install and then you’ll be ready.

We try to make it as easy as possible for you to find the podcasts, so you should be able to search in the app for fulwood free methodist, find the podcast and subscribe, but as there are so many different apps it’s hard to be absolutely certain that this will work. If you can’t find the podcast by searching in the app please let us know.
