In April I’m heading out to KwaZulu-Natal, Durban in South Africa with Tearfund (in partnership with the government organisation ICS), to spend 2 ½ months volunteering with one of their partners, Zoe-Life. I will be working within a group of 18 – 25 year olds from UK and S. Africa. The aim of Zoe-Life is to ‘transform the lives of children, vulnerable families and communities that have been affected by disease, poverty and injustice’.
Some areas I may be involved in are:
Working with vulnerable children and families.
Developing health campaigns for schools and communities mainly focused on the impact of HIV and AIDS. (Zoe-Life was set up primarily to provide support to people suffering from these diseases)
Running assemblies and lessons in schools about life-affecting topics.
Sharing our personal skills with the organisations and groups we work with.
Please pray for me as I prepare and when I am there. Pray that we will bond as a team when we meet to train at the end of February. It is a Christian charity but not everyone will be a Christian so it’d be amazing if I could share God’s love within our own team as well as the people who we meet whilst we’re out there. It is great the programme is partly government funded, but I do have to raise some finance, so pray for that help too please. Finally, I’d love you to pray that focus of our trip will be centred on spreading the message of Jesus, and that my faith, and that of other people on my team, will grow whilst I’m on the biggest adventure of my life!
Bishop David Roller continues his Whole Earth Stories series; this time he is in Xi’an China and telling the story of Jesus Restoring a Demon Possessed Man which is recorded in Mark 5.
Christians are commissioned to make a difference where they are now, not where they would like to be. The good news according to ‘us’ is what most people will read. We are always on the frontline and the front page. We live out our identity as God’s children in ordinary life as well as in the special events, the good times and the bad. How we live is front page news to someone seeking God.
Our morning series looks at front line living, facing some of today’s big issues with the sure-footed serenity and character outlined in Galatians 5, which comes from the Holy Spirit. We look at some of the works of the Holy Spirit to enable us to live attractive lives even in a complex and messy world which are compelling statements of the changes that Christ can make in us.
“I BELIEVE…”
Being a Christian is much more than simply being able to recite a Creed.
God brings together a whole kaleidoscope of different people across the world to be “His Church”. We see in the Bible the core beliefs that unite us, and discover how we can share them with a world looking for meaning and truth.
Our Evening Series focusses on:
What we Believe – Why we believe it
So that we can share our beliefs in a way that is gentle and respectful, yet thought provoking and effective.
“Worship Christ as Lord of your life. And if someone asks about your hope as a believer, always be ready to explain it, but do this in a gentle and respectful way…..”
As it’s Boxing Day and the last Friday of 2014 I thought we would look back on the It’s Friday posts that have received the most views in 2014, so here’s the Top 40 in order.
