Esther Scholes continues our LETTER TO MY YOUNGER SELF series looking at Peter’s letters – 1 Peter and 2 Peter. In this message Ian is looking at 1 Peter 3:1-12.

Peter had always been a family man, and seems to have worked closely with his wife. In those days it was revolutionary to describe one’s wife as an ’equal partner in God’s gift of new life’ and as he links a right relationship with his wife as being crucial to the health of his prayer life, we see how good relationships are crucial to our life as Christians.

When Simon was told that he would henceforth be called Peter (meaning Rock) and later when Jesus told him that he would be the first living stone of the church, he must have pondered what this was about. We see the way God moulded Peter’s character almost more than anyone else in scripture. Once hot headed and unpredictable, now the wise statesman. Once prejudiced against Gentiles, now living in Rome amongst them. He shows us the need to live out what the Holy Spirit is doing within.
