Christmas Journeys | The Long Planned Journey | Isaiah 7:14, Matthew 1:22-23 | Ian Clarkson

Ian Clarkson begins our Christmas Journeys series for Advent 2017.

God’s plan to be with us was revealed hundreds of years before the birth of Jesus in a prophecy by Isaiah in Isaiah 7:14 which Matthew repeated in Matthew 1:22-34.

BRINGING FREEDOM | Be the Good News | Luke 4:16-21, Matthew 5:13-16 | Andrew Gardner

Ian Higginbotham concludes our Freedom series looking at Luke 4:16-21 and Matthew 5:13-16.

Actions speak louder than words. People won’t believe us when we talk about Christ’s good news if our lives don’t match all we say. The way we live our everyday life matters.

WELCOME STRANGER | Epaphroditus – Man for all Seasons | Philippians 2:4-5, Philippians 2:25-30, Philippians 4:18-19 | Ian Higginbotham

Ian Higginbotham continues our Welcome Stranger series by looking at Epaphroditus who can be found in Philippians 2:4-5, Philippians 2:25-30, Philippians 4:18-19.

A man of Pagan background with the goddess Aphrodite incorporated into his name. To the Philippians he was a reliable and trusted messenger to take their gifts to Paul. To Paul he was so much more – a brother, a co-worker, and a fellow soldier. A man of devotion, faithfulness and self-sacrifice, he put the needs of others above himself and so modelled Christ. Possibly one of the first missionaries taking care, provision and the gospel to the needy – a pattern for courage. One of those people whose very presence and faith makes people rejoice.

BRINGING FREEDOM | Tell the Good News | Romans 10:9-15 and Matthew 1:18-25 | Andrew Gardner

Andrew Gardner continues our Freedom series looking at Romans 10:9-15 and Matthew 1:18-25.

Advent and Christmas are about Good News. This news is about Jesus’ love, His presence and forgiveness, but how do we tell others about the freedom Jesus brings?

WELCOME STRANGER | Lois and Eunice – Parenting Against the Odds | Acts 14:8, 19-23, 16:1-3, 1 Timothy 1:3-7 | Ian Clarkson

Ian Clarkson continues our Welcome Stranger series by looking at Lois and Eunice who can be found in Acts 14:8, Acts 14:19-23, Acts 16:1-3, 1 Timothy 1:3-7.

Lois, a Jewish woman, lived in Lystra, Turkey, which was a Roman Colony. Her daughter Eunice married a Greek who was a pagan. The son of a Jewish mother would normally have been circumcised, but Timothy was not, most likely because of his Father’s antagonism.
Lois, Eunice and Timothy were converted after Paul’s visit, and are examples of women who experienced mixed marriages, yet worked together as a big influence on Timothy and perhaps others. They area great example of parenting against the odds.

WELCOME STRANGER | Agabus – Trust in true Spiritual Gifts | Acts 11:27-30, 21:10-12 | Ian Clarkson

Ian Clarkson continues our Welcome Stranger series by looking at Agabus who can be found in Acts 11:27-30 and Acts 21:10-12

Very likely an Elder in the Jerusalem Church, he is recorded in two incidents, both of which occurred outside Jerusalem – the first in Antioch and the second in Caesarea by the Sea. An early church prophet who bought the first prophetic prediction in Acts of famine (which subsequently happened) but on his say so, a huge collection was made. The second prophecy was 15 years later concerning Paul’s death, which everyone accepted as true. A man who used his Spiritual Gifts with evident credibility which built the trust of the church. How does our credibility bear up?
