“Pressure pushing down on me, Pressing down on you… It’s the terror of knowing what the world is about; watching some good friends screaming ‘Let me out'”

The lyrics from the Queen song express the sometimes unbearable pressure of our own life and the mess of the world around us.

Today’s Catching the Wave speaks about this kind of pressure. The weight of life and living can get to us, crush us all.

Jesus speaks about a light yoke. In His day, Rabbis teachings were known as yokes. Yoke were heavy harnesses which helped keep oxen in line with each other. The yoke of life can seem like it has got us harnessed to the heavy weight of life’s pressures and Jesus says, my ways, my teaching are not like this at all. They are a light yoke which sets you free to follow me, not bound or burdened to live under pressure!

John 8:36 says:

“If the Son sets you free you will be free indeed.”

A hymn puts it another way:

“My chains fell of my heart was free, I rose, went forth and followed thee.”

There’s still time to get involved in catching the wave, it’s not too late to get started. If you want a book there’s still some available from Fulwood Free Methodist Church. There’s also an option to get the daily prayer thoughts delivered to your email via our friends at trypraying via this link. Enter your name and email address and you’ll be subscribed to the list once you’ve verified who you are by clicking on a link in the email they send you.

These 40 days of prayer are part of our Focus on 40 as we look forward to celebrating our 40th Anniversary as a community this next weekend. We don’t want to just be looking back on the 40 years that have already been, we want to be looking forward to the next generation and all that God has planned.
