Today’s notes start with the question: “Do we have faith?” For a long time I struggled to understand what people meant by faith. They would talk about having more faith, or less faith. In Matthew 17:20 Jesus talks about faith that is so small that it’s only as big as a mustard seed. Then, one day I was listening to an audio book when the author started talking about faith as looking, relating it to an incident that is recorded in Number 21. It’s a bit of a complicated event, but the part you need to know is that people were healed by looking at a bronze snake. This incident is made even more significant because in John 3:14-15, Jesus said:

‘Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, that everyone who believes may have eternal life in him.’

We receive our healing by looking to Jesus. The wonderful thing about looking to Jesus is that He is wholly trustworthy, in our looking we can give Him all of our trust.

There are different ways of looking aren’t there? What type of looking are you giving Jesus today?

There’s still time to get involved in catching the wave, it’s not too late to get started. If you want a book there’s still some available from Fulwood Free Methodist Church. These 40 days of prayer are part of our Focus on 40 as we look forward to celebrating our 40th Anniversary as a community this next weekend. We don’t want to just be looking back on the 40 years that have already been, we want to be looking forward to the next generation and all that God has planned.
