I like the point about when going through times like this Psalm is describing the need to ask yourselves questions like “Why my soul are you so downcast?” etc. I shall carry on talking to myself! Reply Pastor Andrew on 25/08/2011 at 10:05 am Someone close to me pointed out that they had never seen the song “As the deer pants for the water,” from Psalm 42 through Disney tinted spectacles! The song had always been meaningful and an expression of deep desire for God whatever the circumstances – tough or good. I do hope the song will maintain this sort of relevance. In true context of the Psalm – it is a great song! PAG Reply Andy Cross on 28/08/2011 at 6:33 am Thank you for the response PAG! I think it does highlight that a lot of the more contempary songs that we sing are through Disney tinted spectacles and sing of ideals. We probably need to develop more Church-emo music and like you say the Psalms give us permission to express how we feel. Reply Graham Chastney on 30/08/2011 at 2:49 pm I’m really enjoying Tim Hughes track Ecclesiastes. The balance is in scripture and it’s not been sugar coated in the song. Reply Andy Cross on 11/09/2011 at 4:48 pm I like the sound of that Graham, I will have to have a listen.
